Shermans Builders recently wrapped up a full-scale hardscaping and landscaping transformation in the heart of Clairemont, San Diego. This impressive outdoor renovation turned a dated, uneven backyard into a beautiful, functional, and family-friendly space that blends style with smart solutions.
The project began with a full demolition—day one kicked off with a Bobcat, a large dumpster, and serious muscle. Over 120 yards of dirt (that’s six full 20-yard dumpsters!) were removed to clear and level the space. This clean slate allowed the team to build a strategic slope for optimal drainage and irrigation—a must for long-term durability and healthy landscaping.
One of the key highlights of this project was the brand-new retaining wall, custom-built to support the terrain and create a planting area for future trees. Shermans Builders also installed a new drainage system to keep water flowing away from the home and yard, along with a full irrigation setup to support the freshly laid 700 square feet of lush Bermuda grass.
To complement the green space, the team added decorative rock features and poured a brand-new concrete walkway that leads from the front of the house to the backyard and rear door—offering a clean, modern look and functional access.
The safety liner now wraps the perimeter of the home, adding an extra layer of security and visual polish. As for fencing, the crew replaced the existing fence and built additional fencing to seamlessly match the original, creating a cohesive, finished look around the property.
Another fun feature? A dedicated mold was installed for a future playground area—perfect for families looking to enjoy more time outdoors.
